The international project meeting Gesport will be done in person or virtual
The International Congress on Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Equality and Diversity in Sport (ICMPEDS) organized by the Gesport group, with the support of the Erasmus Program of the European Union, at the Teruel Campus of the University of Zaragoza, which was scheduled for From July 20 to 23, it has been rescheduled to September 7 to 9 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The organization also gives the option to present papers by videoconference and if it were impossible to do the conference in person, it would be chosen to do it virtual, according to its director, Luisa Esteban.
Given this change, the deadline for submitting proposals for the scientific meeting is extended to April 30. Likewise, for those who cannot participate in person, the option is given to present their contributions by videoconference. Registration, which is free, must be done before July 1.
The congress will be an excellent forum for academic, research and professional personnel, as well as for athletes, managers of federations, associations and sports organizations, and those other people, who in some way participate in sport, to share and exchange ideas in different areas. of sports-related equality worldwide.
The congress will address the theoretical and empirical research work and will deal with topics such as the representation of women in sports and in the organizational structures of sport in different countries; women and economic-financial management in sports organizations; the gender regimes that (re) produce different sports policies, modalities and institutions; cases of resistance / conformity of women who already occupy different functions in sports contexts; the challenges and impact of conventional and new body representations in sports institutions that include athletes of both sexes or discourses on masculinity in sport and its effect on athletes of both sexes, among others.
At the moment, two plenary presentations have already been confirmed. Nuria Garatachea Vallejo, Deputy Director General for Women and Sports of the Higher Sports Council of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, will speak about public policies on gender equality in sport, and the strategic lines of the Higher Sports Council.
For her part, Isabel García Sanz, vice-president of the Spanish Olympic Committee and president of its Commission on Women and Gender Equality, president of the Royal Spanish Federation of Salvage and Ocorrismo and of the Latin American Federation of Salvage and Rescue and vice-president of the European Federation Rescue, will deliver the paper: Women and equality: the everlasting back door in which he will analyze the situation in Spain, from the still in force Sports Law of 1990, where the obligation of the presence of women in the governing bodies is established in the legal framework unless it cannot be fulfilled “for objectively founded reasons, duly motivated”, which always leaves the door open so that effective equality between men and women is a gift, not a right.
