This morning has been the public presentation of the European project GESPORT, in the Campus of the University, in Teruel.

The project seeks to strengthen equality between men and women in the decision-making spaces of sports organizations. It is expected that their results contribute to detect possible measures to promote gender balance and improve corporate governance in this type of entities.

The project, of 3 years duration (January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2020), aims to contribute to the empowerment of other women in their professional advancement. In the last decade, many countries have adopted different initiatives to enact gender equality and move towards a more egalitarian, just and democratic society.

In the field of sport, although the group of European experts in good corporate governance points out that gender discrimination is still a priority for governments and
stakeholders, studies are scarce and existing research shows the low participation of women in all policy areas.

A better understanding of female representation in the governing bodies of European sports organizations could identify which gender policies can be proposed and which ones can be improved, in order to increase the empowerment and participation of women in leadership positions.

Making women’s experiences visible, their roles in decision-making bodies, corporate governance practices and the problems and limitations they face in their daily professional life, can help other women better manage their careers in the workplace. contexts where the decision-making process is generated.
During the week of January 15 to 19, the first transnational meeting to launch the project is being held in Teruel, where the key aspects for its development are being worked on.
The project is intended to involve students, for which 4 scholarships will be created, three of them for students of Fine Arts, and another for a student in the field of Social Sciences. There will be an international contest for the development of the project logo.
Subsequently, a catalog with the sectioned logos and an exhibition will be prepared.
The project will have its own web page in which the main events and results will be shown. There will also be an international congress and a summer course.

The project, which has a budget of € 320,511, is funded by the Erasmus + program of the European Union. Five universities from 5 European countries participate in it, and it is coordinated by the professor of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the University of Zaragoza, at the Teruel campus, Luisa Esteban
