With the cooperation of Sakarya University (SAU) and European Union Countries (Spain, Italy, England and Portugal), Erasmus + project, which is accepted to improve the accessibility of women to sports boards, has started.
Dr. Sakarya University. Dr. Gonca Güngör Göksu will investigate gender equality in the corporate governance of sports organizations as part of a project funded by the European Commission man Erasmus + ”sports projects from researchers from four EU countries. The primary objective of the project is to increase the participation of all sports federations within the scope of the ın Erasmus + kurul sports activities and the women in the board of directors of all sports cooperation. It is expected that the results of the project will promote gender equality in decision-making in sports organizations and contribute to identify possible measures. PORT Corporate Governance in Sport Organizations: A Gendered Approach (GESPORT) PORT project started on 1 January and the first project meeting took place in Teruel, Spain on 15-19 January. The project will end in December 2020. Researchers will examine the women’s board of directors in the scope of the project and will present recommendations for strengthening their professional advancement in women’s sport organizations during decision-making.
Dr. Bud Güngör Goksu, at a press conference held on the project, “sports organization in Turkey are divided into three main groups among its members. The first of these is T.C. Ministry of Youth and Sports. When the situation of women executives is analyzed within the scope of the Ministry, unfortunately, there are no women managers within the scope of senior management. The second major sports organization and Olympic Committee of Turkey. There are a total of 19 board members under the Committee. However, only five of the members are women. Finally, 59 sports federations in Turkey is available and only female chairman of Turkey Sailing Federation. When a general assessment made, the proportion of female managers in the organization of board sports in Turkey is 5 percent. The remaining 95 percent share consists of male board members. Compared partner countries involved in the project, I think the worst case is Turkey. In the first phase, the project will develop a data base from each partner country and an overview of women’s representation in national sports boards. In the second stage, the interviews will be conducted to analyze the experiences of women board members who have encountered glass ceiling in their professional life or who have interesting and satisfying stories in the sports field. In addition, a logo competition will be held within the scope of the project. Fine arts students from five partner countries will be able to participate in this competition. As part of the project, however, summer school will be held in the province of Teruel. In the final stage of the project, an international conference on sports and women will take place.
