More women in sports management: a Teramo researcher in the European project

Tiziana Di Cimbrini in the transnational team of 5 countries financed by the
European Commission

TERAMO – Tiziana Di Cimbrini, researcher of the Faculty of Political Sciences
of the University of Teramo, participates in a study on gender equality in the governance of sports organizations as part of an Erasmus + research project, financed with 320 thousand euro by the European Commission, which involves five European countries.
In fact, the University of Teramo collaborates with four other European universities to the research project Corporate governance in sport organizations: A gendered approach (GESPORT) which aims to promote greater female participation in the governing bodies of the federations and associations sports coherently with the
Erasmus + Sport program, identifying effective tools for promoting gender balance. Tiziana Di Cimbrini will participate in the research in collaboration with Luisa Esteban, coordinator of the study, of the University of Zaragoza (Spain); Charlotte Smith, of the Business School of the University of Leicester (United Kingdom); Emilia Fernandes, of the University of Minho (Portugal); Gonca Güngör Göksu, University of Sakarya (Turkey).

As part of the project, which started on January 1st and will end on December 31st 2020, the first transnational meeting has already been held at the University of Zaragoza. “The Italian legislative system – explained Tiziana Di Cimbrini – compared to that of other countries, has shown a good sensitivity towards the issue of gender equality. Just think about how our Constitution is attentive in this sense, our Code of Equal Opportunities between men and women and the introduction of gender quotas in the councils of
administration of listed companies. This sensitivity, however, is not adequately reflected in the world of Italian sport in which, as a recent journalistic survey, “women win but do not count”. There are still very few studies on the presence of women in sports governing centers. This research project can help women aspiring to a career in sports organizations to undermine the male monopoly ».
